Must read for overcoming "purity culture"

This book is more than just a book. The authors looked at scientifically backed measures of healthy s36uality and relationships and compared people who grew up in "Purity Culture" (which is far more than just a belief to keep s36 within marriage) to those who did not. They looked through all the big books and programs from Purity Culture in the 1990s and 2000s and found major teachings and themes. In a survey of 7,000 women, they asked women if they believed these teachings in high school and if they believed them now. This was correlated to their current status of safety in marriage (signs of abuse), marital satisfaction, s36ual satisfaction, and self-esteem. When data shows that certain teachings harm women, we need to ask why those teachings persist. This book could be difficult to read for many women, as we were taught that r@pe was our fault, that all men are essentially immature and irresponsible, etc. And it isn't true. I encourage men to read this, too, especially if you are unaware of what your wife or friends were taught about themselves and men.

Be the change!

Get this book out there! Male, female, college student, retiree, etc... The authors ignite a spark that resonates with those growing up in the American evangelical church in the last 50 years. Her research numbers are supported and it's just not a handful of opinions. I am blown away by the tenacity, persistence, and professional approach of the authors to tackle this massive "elephant in the room '' of a topic. I am so glad that this book is out and here to make an impact.

GOOD NEWS!

GOOD NEWS! She Deserves Better is a book that I want my wife and daughter to read. She Deserves Better shows us the FACTS that messages delivered in many Evangelical churches are harmful to girls and women. In addition, these same messages have negative impact for boys and men as well. The solution? Change the message by expecting the Fruit of the Spirit through the message of Jesus. I would love to have a searchable PDF version of this book to get a count on the number of times Jesus is referenced in this life changing dialogue. SHE DESERVED BETTER IS EPIC!
