Replacement 14.4 VDC Battery
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The DeWalt drill that was bought +/- 25 years ago is still running strong, but the 14.4 VDC battery is giving up the ghost and does not seem to be replaceable through the company. Very frustrating, and sad. Other than that, it a great drill.
NOT BAD
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have an old DeWalt drill that's been sitting around for a while, because I just couldn't bear to spend the money on the expensive factory replacements. Then I saw these and figured I'd give them a shot and maybe give my drill a new life these work exactly as expected, in are pretty equivocal to the factory batteries that came with it. I like the yellow versus the factory black ones, now my drill is all yellow these seem to hold a charge, take the same amount of time to charge, and have the same amount of power as the ones my drill came with. Very happy with these so far! My drill runs like brand new again!
Lack of support or service past production
The drill these batteries came with (DW991) continues to run flawlessly past 20 years use, the first 5-10 used hard on the farm & learning to frame houses….now relegated to general around the house maintenance and projects does everything it's needed for. BUTTT the batteries keeled over it seems….BIG problem now is that's a guess as performance decreased in-sync with shortening battery life & longer charge times. Without being able to buy a new known good battery how can I make sure the problem isn't actually the drill itself, the charger, or a non-functional ‘rebuilt' battery pack. DeWalt's making a business choice trying to push up revenue by getting customers to upgrade for the latest & greatest - Which has gone to such ‘industrial grade' and constantly changing standards if I replace this now, next year when I need new impact drivers/sawzalls/etc those batteries and chargers will quite probably be of yet another standard. Continuing to produce new power packs for long out of production tools at a low volume for those of us running into this would not a viable manufacturer make. But surely they could maintain an arrangement or relationship with a another company or subcontract with a battery maker/refurbisher giving customers access to a reliable or at least guaranteed product or service to obtain replacement battery packs which work and function inside the drill's tech specs for it. This was actually my grandfather's now using to take care of their home and them. Likely won't continue with DeWalt personal tools, particularly no longer able to go somewhere and actually look at them, at the same time about to upgrade a bunch of stuff. In the end the ‘battery' is just a block of multiple small(er) cells joined together…..and without the fire hazards and such of lithium. Tools have been great in the end, no idea if ones made now are as sturdy and without some type of standardization in battery systems this type of complaint's going to worsen. Appears this is the same sole complaint of all that've commented. Cannot say uniquely a DeWalt issue either: Family'd gone to electric everything for landscaping/yard work etc while I was gone & over 5 years there were at least as many battery types and chargers with relatively high infant or early mortality in batteries, near constant breakage or failure and replacement of tools etc. Just fired up my shaft-power Stihl weedeater, chainsaw, blower & a Honda engined mower zero issues the weedeater spent near 20 years hanging in garage - a 25 cent parts & fresh fluids fired right up.
