Opening is small

I usually wear 8.5 wide shoes, measured my feet and went with a size 9, for what is supposed to be a slipper, the opening is very tight, no way to put these on by just "slipping your feet in" as one would with slippers. Inside was good fit for my feet. Warmth was not as i expected, either i over expected them to keep my feet warmer or they underperform.
