I read this book a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. I am from Hawaii and enjoyed the story and the characters and old time Hawaii historical fiction setting. It brought to life the situation those poor people were in and was good as far as immersion in the culture also. The leper colony in Kalaupapa came up in conversation with a friend who likes to read, so I bought a copy to give to her.
