Engaging, and educational toy

Firstly, I should've read the label more carefully at the time of selection - since this is for older kids. The package says age 8 upwards. My kids who are 4 and 6, use the tinkertoy (similar to the K'nex) but made larger, for smaller hands. This was a little difficult for them to do on their own. However that being said, it is a great toy, and even my little ones had a lot of fun with it and preserved with it, to make themselves a large slide. Older kids will certainly get hours of fun with this toy. There is a manual with suggested projects, fairly easy to follow. However, once you get the hang of it, you can create almost anything with it. Its similar to Legos, so if you have a child that likes Legos, they will be sure to love this too. I like that it comes in a red plastic box, for easy storage. I will definitely continue using this with my kids for several years. The pieces are very well made, and should last forever. I will likely be tempted to purchase another box or two down the line, so they can make larger structures, as they grow older. I think this toy encourages creative thinking and problem solving - so a keeper!

knex

Me and my five kids had fun playing with this set as well as two other sets. They come in a plastic storage container so you don't have to worry about keeping it in a box that will eventually fall part. My 8 year old did need help putting the different models together and was not hard for me to understand the directions on how to put the different models together. Even my 3 year old had fun playing with the finished models. Glad we had got this set and the two others. You can only make one model at a time but I expected that. My kids have even been building their own things with the sets. Was happy with this set as well as the other two

High quality STEM learning for kids!

I chose this set because I am really interested in introducing STEM learning concepts to my 4 year old son. This set is actually geared toward ages 9+, and I would agree that it is definitely meant for older kids. My son likes to play with the wheels and gears, but the majority of the projects in the manual are really pretty advanced for his age. However, they are really quality and sturdy pieces, and I know he will grow into them and hopefully take an interest in them in years to come. This set includes 352 colorful pieces (gears, wheels, straight pieces, string, etc.) in a sturdy plastic tub. The manual includes 16 different project ideas, from a simple hammer to more advanced things like an elevator and a tow truck. We've had this set for a few days now, and my son consistently opens it every day to build something or play with the different gears. I like that it has sparked an interest in building and creativity for him. This is a really great set for families, as everyone can get involved in building different parts of a project and watching it all come together. There are also different K'Nex with different concepts which would probably work well with this set.
