We have a through & through fireplace with carpet approximately 24" from hearth in the last 20 years we have had carpet burns from embers exploding & passing through chain guard on fireplace. We purchased 2 fire retardants rugs that are working great & also gives us piece of mind when we go to bed knowing that the carpet is not going to catch on fire. Additionally, they look great & are easy to clean.
