Most people think salvation is all there is. They don't understand that there is so much more to living the Christian life, and accept mediocrity in their understanding of who God is, and who they are before Him. They certainly don't want the hard lessons that bring about heart-changes, and humility is one of the lessons that give us a reverence for God unlike any other.
