The idea for the Eyes of Texas Travel Guide grew out of "THe Eyes of Texas" television program, the oldest and best known travel and historical series on Texas television. Ray Miller is a pioneer broadcast journalist. He originated the weekly feature program about Texas in 1969. He and the program staff have traveled the state since then recording and preserving the colorful and unusual aspects of Texas' vast expanses. The program was successful that the television audience was soon suggesting the program should be produced in book form as an aid to travelers and tourists. This Hill country/Permian Basin Edition is the fourth book in the series proposed to satisfy that need. by concentrating on the 38 counties in the Hill Counry and Permian Basin region, this edition provides the extensive detail about each county seldom found in travel books about Texas. It covers places of historic as well as recreational interest that people traveling Texas may wish to visit. The text was written by Ray Miller after extensive study of many reference works on Texas and many personal interviews with residents of this part of the state. There are more than 400 illustrations in the Hill Country/ Permian Basis Edition, compiled by Miller, the Eyes of Texas producer Gary James and cinematographer Bill Springer during hundreds of trips through this part of Texas.
