It was only a matter of time. The hit TV series, Charmed, is as famous for its music as it is its trio of sexy female stars and its supernatural plots, so a soundtrack album just made sense. And fans of both the show and pop music won't be disappointed. Released to coincide with the show's sixth season, this compilation features a wide variety of music that'll have all your moods covered. (And word has it that several artists performing on the soundtrack will also be appearing on the show.)

The show's theme song is simply outstanding. A cover of the classic Smiths' number, "How Soon Is Now?" performed by Love Spit Love, is a classic piece of electro-rock. The song also appeared on the soundtrack of the teen-witch movie, The Craft in 1996.

Hip UK alt-rockers Stereophonics chip in with "Maybe Tomorrow," an ultra-light, extra-mellow pop number from their June, 2003 release You Gotta Go There To Come Back. Like a lot of things on this album, the song features a guitar solo that could well be described as "otherworldly." Old favorites Smash Mouth, who first caught the world's attention in 1997 with their hit, "Walkin' On The Sun," open the disc with "Hot" -- a Beatlesque slant on their super-fun, ska-pop. Did somebody say fun? Well check out Ziggy Marley and his pop-reggae number, "Rainbow In The Sky," which features some high-profile musicians, including Red Hot Chili Pepper bassist Flea. It's a great mid-tempo dance groove with some tasty brass licks.

On the more somber end of the musical spectrum is 23-year-old singer/songwriter prodigy Vanessa Carlton's "Rinse," from her smash debut album, Be Not Nobody. It starts out as an almost goth piano ballad, strangely sultry and mystical at the same time. Then the strings come in and the song builds and peaks with power drums and a sound that's full and rich.

And there's so much more here. The fabulous Third Eye Blind let loose with the power-pop of "Danger." English artist Goldfrapp offers up the electronica cut "Strict Machine," which sounds like a cross between Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit In The Sky" and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" updated for the new millennium. The swaying, synth-laced, dream-pop of the Flaming Lips "Do You Realize??" and the rocky "I Can't Take It" by Andy Stochansky -- a guy who knows a thing or two about hooking the listener with a big-time chorus.

Also here are Rachael Yamagata with the plaintive "Worn Me Down" and Balligomingo with "New Favorite Thing," featuring the vocals of Lucy Woodward.

Unlike some soundtracks, Charmed is all killer, no filler. The majority of songs here are from recent or soon-to-be-released albums by these major artists. Just like a bubbling brew in witch's cauldron, it'll cast a spell on you.
