A must before an Alaskan adventure

Simple but engaging tale of survival in Alaska. It is quick read, but enjoyable. I enjoyed that both the main characters in this book and the tribe that abandoned them learned lessons about the value of human companionship of all ages. Written by an Alaskan author, the story rings true (I spent 4 years growing up in Alaska and enjoyed this book). The story begins when the group faces starvation and decides to leave two complaining elders. Man vs nature, nature of loyalty, aging/ value of seniors in society, and forgiveness are all themes explored in this book. If you like to set the stage for locations you visit by reading related books, this is one I would include prior to visiting Alaska.
