SCANDAL IN THE PALCE(A DRAMA)
Palace is the sacred and revered place of the kingdom where the chosen and bona fide custodian of the people, customs and laws, as well as the representative of the gods, the king, dwells; it is, therefore, a place from where every good example of morality, discipline and adherence to the laws and decrees of the gods, for the good of the land and the people, permeates.
But when Obi Osedumme Nwadei, who wears the crown of kingship, brazenly defies the decrees of the gods he is supposed to be representing, by defiling the young Ezinwa, just like the careless butterfly who thought it could just make away with the spider's game without getting caught in the web, he not only desecrates the throne and causes scandal in the palace but also puts the whole land in jeopardy with the anger of the gods.
And, quite invariably, there are always dire and inevitable consequences for flagrant flouting and disobedience of the laws and decrees of the gods and nature, irrespective of human status and offices.
What then will it be from the defied gods for the dissident Obi Nwadei and the people of the ancient land of Ine-Ukwu? Indeed, will it be blood for blood, to atone for and cleanse this scandal in the hallowed palace? And whose blood will it be for the gods? Yet, the gods must be appeased.
The drama, though a complete work of fiction without any resemblance or reference to any person, past event or incident, is set in the Aniocha cultural background of Delta State of Nigeria. It is conceptualized for stage performance.
