About this item
Product details
Mexican Heather (Cuphea hyssopifolia Forms an 18- to 24-inch mound perfect for containers or the garden! A Long Season of Lavender Blooms on Bushy, Floriferous Plants! Looks so dainty, you'd never know it has a tough-as-nails constitution that sneers at drought at heat! Cuphea looks so dainty, sporting masses of tiny lavender star-shaped blooms among well-branched foliage! You'd never guess that it is really one of the most weather-resistant, vigorous garden plants available anywhere, blooming through drought and heat without losing a petal! Just the right size for a large tub and wonderful in the garden, this Mexican Heather forms a very dense mound 18 to 24 inches high and wide. For months on end it sports masses of blooms -- erupting from containers, spilling into the walkway or dangling over the patio wall! A fine complement to yellow, white, and bloom blooms in the garden, it is also colorful enough to stand alone. The best flowering is achieved in full sun, but Mexican Heather tolerates dappled shade as well. You will love this top-performing beauty! Mexican Heather also makes an excellent indoor plant, set in a bright window. With ample light is will bloom winter-long! Prized for its lacy foliage and numerous jewel-like flowers, cuphea, commonly called Mexican heather, makes an ideal container or border plant. Growing just 10 to 18 inches tall, this shrubby, tropical annual is smothered in blooms all summer long. Plus, the flowers are as attractive to butterflies as they are to you. Colors include white, violet, or red. Mix Mexican heather with other annuals or use it to line a garden path or walkway. Zones 8-11. Plant Mexican heather in a sunny or partially sunny spot with well-drained soil and feed with a slow-release granular fertilizer at planting time. Mexican heather likes to be watered whenever the surface of the soil feels dry to the touch. Mexican heather has a dense, compact growth habit. But, once in a while, your plants may look a bit rangy. If that happens shear the plant back by a third of its height to encourage tighter growth.
