Great Read

What a great story, heart wrenching !!! Ada Rupp was chosen by the Bishop Troyer to teach at the new Special Needs School. Her young brother will be attending there, and it just seemed the logical thing to do. The children that will be attending the school all have different special needs. She is raising her young siblings, and this just seems like it will be impossible, but she does it and does it well. Josiah Yoder has moved to the area with his mom and his young son Nathan to start over since his wife has passed away. Nathan is deaf, and doesn't understand where his mother is and why she isn't home, so he has terrible tantrums when he is with Josiah. Ada tries to suggest having Nathan attend her school, but he just thinks it's a terrible idea. Finally, he takes him to sign him up. Ada shows such patience and helps both Nathan and Josiah through some hard times. Nathan really loves being with Ada and Josiah likes spending time with her also, but he is still grieving the loss of his wife. What a wonderful story, well thought out and you can Rachel Good did a lot of research. You won't want to put this book down, it is such a good story.

Beautiful story from a talented author

The Amish Teacher's Gift by Rachel J. Good is the first in her Love and Promises series. This captivating book brings to life the story of a young Amish woman who has taken on the care of her seven younger siblings and now has been asked to be the teacher of special needs children. How can she ever begin to dream of a husband and a home of her own? What man would want a ready-made family of 7 kids? And the secret she holds close--what man would love her when he learned what she had done? The author gives good (and accurate) insight into the lives of families who have special needs children and it was interesting to read of the variety of equipment and modalities to teach and calm children on the autism spectrum and those with hearing deficits. The romance between Ada and Josiah is fraught with tension which keeps the reader wondering if they will ever be able to get beyond all the obstacles in their path to love. This is a charming and heartwarming story that brings to light the essence of community in the Amish lifestyle and I can't wait to read the next book from this talented author. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own.

Informative and Entertaining

What an interesting read with lots of information on how the Amish deal with disabled children. I found it enlightening as well as entertaining with the romantic tension between the teacher and Josiah. This book also has a secret of what happened to Ada's father until almost the end, so that in itself keeps you turning pages to find out. Well written and researched without bogging down with to much information. The characters are relatable and my heart bleeds for Josiah. It is a story of family dynamics, navigating life's hardships, misunderstandings, and God's restoration. It will make you smile and have you in tears. This is book one in the new Love
