The Anti-Federalist Papers, like the Federalists Papers, are a gathering of writings by various authors who opposed the ratification of the United States Constitution in 1788. Not surprisingly, the group of writings, were often published under false or fictitious names. It argued against the proposed strong central government and emphasized the importance of states' rights and individual citizen liberties. Many of the anti-federalist argued about the potential for governmental overreach and the need for greater protections for citizens.
