Key item features

When a savage creature known only as the Adversary conquered the fabled lands of legends and fairy tales, all of the infamous inhabitants of folklore were forced into exile. Disguised among the "mundys," their name for normal citizens of modern-day New York, these magical characters created their own secret society that they call Fabletown. From their exclusive luxury apartment buildings on Manhattan's Upper West Side, these creatures of legend must fight for their survival in the new world.

Fables is the winner of 14 Eisner Awards and is one of the most enduring Vertigo titles ever. Here, in this new, 10th anniversary edition, is a newly colored 8-page story from the Fables prose work Peter & Max: A Fables Novel, as well as a beautiful new cover from series artist Mark Buckingham.

Who Killed Rose Red?

PLOT (I'll try to keep it spoiler free): After the fables homelands are taken over, they must flee or be executed. They wind up in New York City and colonize an entire block. We meet a bunch of fables who've escaped from the homelands and its new ruler, The Adversary. Right away we find out Rose Red has been killed and Snow White, along with Sheriff Bigby Wolf (Big Bad Wolf) and Jack (the beanstalk guy), has to solve the case. Who would want her dead? And why? Is it possible one of their own committed the crime? And how is Bluebeard involved? REVIEW: My edition is the original so I might have some differences, for example, my copy has less pages (119 vs 144). You'll get the new one with all the extras, don't worry about that. I just bought mine a few years ago so this version wasn't out yet. Full color series, matte pages so you don't have to worry about leaving fingerprints or anything on them. It's the TBP (Trade PaperBack) edition so it's a soft cover. Still no complaints after a few years of owning it. Collected inside are issues 1-5 of the series (in my version, that's all I have). Your version will have issues 1-5 and an excerpt from Peter and Max; a Fables Novel (amazing book about the Pied Piper and his brother). You'll also get the new cover for the 10th anniversary of the series. VERDICT: Not guilty of being boring. It's a very refreshing story about what might happen if fables from our children stories were real, and sought refuge in our world. With the extras and main story, you won't be disappointed. Excellent start to a great series.
