These stairs were a major improvement over the previous plastic ones I was using. Those had too few steps and were too steep for my aging dog, so he kept slipping or struggling to get from the top step onto the bed. This one works much better for him. It is softer, which feels safer, and the extra height makes climbing up a lot easier. It arrived vacuum packed and expanded really well within a few hours, although the instructions do recommend letting it sit for 48 hours. I was also a little concerned about stability since it is made of foam, but it is actually pretty solid. My dog is a small 9 lb Yorkie mix, so not quite Chihuahua-sized, and it holds up nicely under his weight. The instructions mentioned an included Velcro piece to anchor it to the bed, but mine did not come with that. Thankfully, the non-skid bottom grips well on carpet, so it does not slide around when he goes up and down even without it. I did think it would be a little taller, but I am still very happy with it at this height. For a small dog, it works really well.
