REV-X ZINC Oil Additive is formulated for engines that require elevated levels of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, commonly referred to as ZDDP, for enhanced anti-wear protection during critical operating conditions. This product is especially important for newly assembled engines equipped with flat tappet camshafts and lifters, where proper break-in protection is essential to help reduce premature camshaft, lifter, and valvetrain wear. During engine operation, ZDDP becomes thermally activated and forms a durable sacrificial anti-wear film across high-pressure metal surfaces, including cam lobes, lifters, crankshaft components, and other friction-sensitive areas. This protective layer helps minimize direct metal-to-metal contact under extreme pressure, allowing the additive film to absorb wear before it reaches vital engine components. In flat tappet applications, where the cam lobe maintains continuous contact with the lifter face, this additional protection is particularly valuable because the contact area is exposed to intense friction, heat, and mechanical load. REV-X ZINC Oil Additive is also suitable for many older vehicles, particularly engines from the 1980s and earlier, that were originally designed around motor oils containing higher concentrations of ZDDP. As modern engine oils have changed over time, some classic, performance, racing, and restoration applications may benefit from additional zinc and phosphorus content to help support the lubrication demands of older valvetrain designs. For new engine break-in, mix 2 fl. oz. of REV-X ZINC Oil Additive with 6 quarts of engine oil to achieve approximately 3200 ppm of ZDDP protection. For engines that have already completed the break-in process, add 1 fl. oz. to reach approximately 1500–1800 ppm, providing supplemental anti-wear protection for engines that continue to require elevated zinc levels. ZDDP works by creating a protective chemical barrier when exposed to the heat and pressure generated inside the engine. Rather than allowing friction to directly wear against expensive internal components, the anti-wear film acts as a controlled sacrificial layer that gradually depletes while helping preserve camshafts, lifters, and other critical surfaces. Without this protective film in high-load flat tappet applications, excessive heat and friction can contribute to accelerated wear, reduced performance, and potential engine damage. REV-X ZINC Oil Additive is designed specifically to increase anti-wear protection through ZDDP enrichment. For applications where the primary goal is to reduce friction, lower operating temperatures, improve oil system cleanliness, or provide broader oil performance enhancement after break-in, REV-X recommends using REV-X High Performance Oil Treatment or REV-X High Performance Racing Oil Treatment.
