Kind of Interesting

This was a good book overall. The was good, character introductions, plot extraction, really good. I really liked the pacing of the book. It felt slow but really, it went quickly since the book panned out over a week. I liked how there kinda was an unstructured kind of structure as in, you could see the "before" segment where Evie had lots of film prospects ahead of her, the "after the before" where Evie's life goes into shambles and the "after" where Evie makes self revelations and the plot has been overcome and resolved. I thought it was well done and that's really thanks to the pacing aspect. I'm a sucker when it comes to books with celebrity characters. It's my thing and I'm obsessed with it even though I know it's a slippery slope that could very quickly go downhill. I was a little wary about this trope in this book for those reasons, but in reality, I shouldn't have worried. Evie was a flawed character who's character development could be seen throughout the novel as she discovered more about herself and who she was as a person and an actress. I also loved the parts with Milo's band, Doves Have Pride and their friendliness towards Evie who was going through a rough patch with a toxic, selfish and manipulative friend. I loved seeing Evie's trust in people build up through being there for Milo and sticking by his dreams of becoming a musician. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and managed to read it in a day. It's a good one to read if you want a really engaging contemporary that you can read in one lazy afternoon.

Fun contemporary YA romance

Evie is a young actress living in L.A. and has a legacy to live up to. Her parents are famous documentary film makers and her grandmother, Gigi, is a legendary actress. She has dreamed of following in Gigi's footsteps her whole life. Evie is about to launch into superstardom in a thriller movie with a famous director, when her best friend Simone betrays her by posting an embarrassing drunken video of Evie on social media. Evie's trust is shattered and she loses the movie role. She has a chance to star in the remake of her grandmother's most famous movie. All she needs is Gigi's blessing. She visits Gigi in New York and meets Gigi's friend Milo an aspiring teenage musician. Gigi subsequently vanishes and Evie and Milo search NYC for Gigi. At the beginning of the book, Evie's behavior is selfish. She is thinking only of what her grandmother can do for her career. She does not start off on the right foot with Milo. She grows a lot during the story and comes to realize that people are complex and that self worth should not be based on what others think of you. Now That I've Found You is a fun, fast-paced coming of age story.
