A native of Alabama, he earned degrees from Howard College, Birmingham (B.A.), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Wake Forest University (M.A.). He and his wife, Sydnor, have been married over twenty years and have three children-Bob, Meredith, and Jeff.
