Tuff Stuff Performance 3193Nb Gear Reduction Starter Fits select: 1967-1971 CHEVROLET CAMARO, 1969-1986 CHEVROLET C10

This is a great starter but did have a small casting flaw. I called JEGs and asked if I could seal the hole with RTV and they would still back the warranty. They said "yes". I didn't expect any less from JEGs. Also the solenoid gasket was slightly misaligned, however I loosened the cover and aligned it properly. All in all this starter works great. I have had too many problems with starter solenoids not engaging properly. It's not fun replacing flexplates/ring gears. The Denso style solenoids like this starter has are direct drive to the gear. It's the only style I will ever get from now on. This 3hp starter turns my 386 engine (yes, 386 4.155 bore x 3.562 stroke) over at a much higher RPM than any of my other SBC starters did. I even purposely ran the battery down to check low voltage performance. It did great! Almost no performance change. Also, it didn't require any shims for proper gear alignment. This starter looks like the starter they use on some of the diesel engines but has ben turned upside down for this application. Being upside down it did make the vent hold face up so debris could get in but I had a heat blanket protecting it. I would have given it 5 stars if it didn't have the flaws mentioned.
