Better for teens/ adults

Starting out, instructions are better than some items from overseas but not the best. If you weren't a child in the 80's programming digital watches from Japan, you may find them somewhat difficult. My son has ADHD and is on the spectrum, I thought this might be a good item to help him function more independently- a good scaffolding step to where a parent can step back and not say the prompt, but still check in to see if tasks are complete. It includes a clock (with a visual display of seconds to prompt the thought that time is passing), alarm clock, task list, and a timer/ stopwatch. The stop watch essentially only works for 60 seconds and the timer will show a visual representation of minutes. That said it isn't intuitive whether you are setting the timer or programming the time and dates. You have to read the instructions and I can see my son accidentally changing the date when setting the timer to practice his trumpet. The voice prompts are also odd sounding, but that part is minor. The task list is a nice touch, but instead of going the same direction in both columns, you click it away from the task list to indicate tasks are complete (opposite directions). The last is to turn off the lights, not indicate a task is done- which is counter intuitive and frankly doesn't make sense as you need to physically click all the tasks back into the ready position anyway. This does have an internal backup battery, but to charge it and put it in use, you must put the tiny switch on the back to on. For a younger child or one that may get easily confused by the time setting being the same knob as the timer, a simpler version of this with an old fashioned manual timer may be better. This does double as an odds and ends holder with a spot for pens and pencils and a little drawer on the back- but if you are like our family the little drawer will be largely inaccessible as it will be against the wall- I put the instructions in there.

Fun timer

Very easy to setup. My 6th grade students figured it out fairly quickly. They really like the countdown timer. I'm not sure how much we'll use the task chart. It would be good to encourage little ones to do little jobs. Brushing teeth etc. The voice is very robotic. It has a nice little drawer in the back, but it falls out easily. A definite CON is the short cord. You're very limited on placement without an extension cord.
