Key item features

  • Oralite V98 Microprismatic Retroreflective Conspicuity Tape is prismatic conspicuity material available in a variety of fluorescent neon colors which include lime yellow, orange and yellow. Oralite is the Oracal Group's new brand name for Reflexite.
  • The thin, flexible sheeting has a unique appearance featuring a printed triangular white line pattern. V98 will enhance the visibility of any police, fire or EMS vehicle. It provides superior visibility and conspicuity to oncoming motorists which results in improved safety and image.
  • UV and solvent resistant coatings ensure durability which allows for rugged outdoor use on the sides and rear of tow trucks, trailers, school buses, farm equipment, automobiles, and all types of mobile and industrial equipment (designed to adhere to high surface energy substrates such as metal and glass). Aggressive pressure-sensitive adhesive backing designed for rigid metal substrates.
  • Tape is weather-resistant and has a 5-year warranty. Maintains reflectivity after impact. Conspicuity-grade material like this is typically 6 or 7 times more reflective than a comparable color in an engineering-grade reflective tape since prism technology is used instead of glass beads so you would be able to see it from much farther distances away.
  • Carrier/Backing: UV stabilized polymeric film. Adhesive: acrylic. Release Liner: paper. Thickness: 18 mils (carrier, adhesive). Application Temperature: 50F to 100F. Standards Met: LS-300C section 3.6.7; Meets requirements for ASTM D4956, NFPA 1901; complies with European RoHS directive 2002/95/EC. Core: 3-inch diameter.

Great stuff, some sticking issues

I got this stuff for making my bikes and bike gear more visible. I'm a big believer in not getting run over, and although box jockeys can still kill you when they see you, they kill ya more when they can't see you. This stick-on tape seems like the right stuff. The v98 is thinner/more flexible and can be peeled back up and placed within a minute or so, so you can get the lines right on your gear. I used it on bike fenders to start with. The 1' stuck really well and didn't move. It's really visible by day and super visible at night via reflection. (Get the lime green/yellow if you're looking for fluorescent yellow. The other yellow seems to be the more orangy yellow of road signs.) The 2' hasn't stuck as well on my fenders, has baconed up at the edges. This is likely because the smaller radius there means there's more tape being sort of squished down to cover less area. In the future, for a multi-curved surface like this, I'll try snipping out little relief darts. That will be easy since the tape's got little triangular pattern in it, so the look will remain tidy. I prepped the surfaces carefully, degreasing then finishin with alcohol wipe or window cleaner to get it super clean before putting the tape down. I expect it'll last a long time.
