The base is a 'tree' with 2 birds sitting on the branches that hold the shade. This piece is formed by over 455 hand cut stained glass pieces, and 208 glass beads, each wrapped in a thin copper foil and soldered together, the same technique developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the early 1900's.

The lamp arrived quickly, and as i unpacked it from the very substantial packaging, i noticed severe cracks and separated glass pieces. It's a beautiful lamp, but at the price, i wasn't going to keep it. The vendor quickly offered a partial credit if i wanted to keep it. i said I'd rather have a lamp in perfect condition. Instead, they gave me full credit and so far, have not asked for the damaged lamp. This is great customer service.
