I bought this set because I love the design, and that they have the big pasta/salad bowls and no coffee mugs because I don't drink coffee. They are exceptional quality. Nice heavy, solid stoneware. I wash by hand, just a personal choice, but I believe they are dishwasher safe. Also, I love the speckling in them too
