The entire Yellowstone series centers around the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in the United States. However, the family is mired in conflicts of interest with Yellowstone National Park, Indian reservations, and land developers in the surrounding areas. Seasons 1 - 4: The family confronts multiple crises. Externally, land developers eye the ranch covetously, and Indian tribes continuously press for land rights. Internally, frequent conflicts arise among family members. For instance, the eldest son, Lee, loses his life in a confrontation, the youngest son, Kayce, gets caught up in revenge and legal troubles, the daughter, Beth, is shrewd and assertive, and the son, Jamie, struggles between his family obligations and political ambitions. Under the leadership of the family head, John Dutton, the Dutton family spares no effort to defend the ranch and engages in intense maneuvering against various forces. Season 5: John Dutton is elected Governor of Montana, and this shift in his status brings about new challenges. While implementing policies to protect the ranch, he triggers confrontations with political opponents and also causes divisions within the family over interest distribution and future directions.
