So far so good

Have a flame thrower distributor. The original module lasted long enough to get through warranty. I decided since I had to replace it might as well upgrade. It was easy to install. Car starts better and idles better than it ever did before. We'll see how it holds up.

Pertronix unit too far from magnet ring!

When I got the distributor, I removed the cap and looked at the Pertronix unit. It was mounted 3/32" from the magnet ring. 1/32" = 0.03125", so 3/32" = 0.09375". Pertronix recommends that the spacing between the magnet ring and the unit should be 0.020" to 0.040", i.e., about 0.030". In other words, the spacing was three times greater than what is recommended! I don't know if this distributor would have worked or not, but it was definitely not well made. I talked to Pertronix about it, and they said it would have a very weak signal. I don't know whose fault this was, but maybe you should look into it.
