Amped Wirelesss High Power 12dBi Wi-Fi Antenna, WA12

I am giving this device good ratings for several reasons not related to performance. It is sleek and looks cool. It is flexible, allowing the user to position the signal as needed. The base is magnetic allowing for it to be stuck onto practically anything with metal content, even the side of office equipment. The base can also be mounted on a wall via screws. Set up could not be simpler: remove an antenna from your router, screw this device's connector on and you are up and running! Unfortunately, the device is not doing what I needed it to do. My internet router is on the top level of a three level house. I cannot move it due to the location of my phone/internet jack. I bought the device to improve the WIFI signal in my basement. Without the device, the signal is intermittent and definitely not strong enough for streaming devices to function without hiccups and almost constant buffering. That said, I do believe the device is functioning and not defective, my basement is exceptionally well built and well insulated. Several tech-savvy friends have suggested that the signal interruption/weakness in the basement is due to the construction and unless I can move my router, an antenna booster isn't the answer. Perhaps I will try a repeater next. I will probably keep the device, the price was good and who doesn't want better WIFI in their backyard!
