Faith. Trust. Triumph.

"I trust Roselle with my life, every day. She trusts me to direct her. And today is no different, except the stakes are higher." ―Michael Hingson

First came the boom―the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the earth. Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south. On the seventy-eighth floor of the World Trade Center's north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one had information about what had happened at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001―what should have been a normal workday for thousands of people. All that was known to the people inside was what they could see out the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.

Blind since birth, Michael couldn't see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle's judgment and not to panic. They are a team.

"Thunder Dog" allows you entry into the isolated, fume-filled chamber of stairwell B to experience survival through the eyes of a blind man and his beloved guide dog. Live each moment from the second a Boeing 767 hits the north tower, to the harrowing stairwell escape, to dodging death a second time as both towers fold into the earth.

It's the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and your perspective. "Thunder Dog "illumiates Hingson's lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

Thunder Dog is the story of Michael Hingson, who was blind from birth and was at the World Trade Center when it was struck on September 11, 2001. Michael was a district sales manager for a data protection company that was located on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center. Through this book you will learn of Michaels acount of escaping the World Trade Center, but also of his life of being blind since birth. Michael was never taught that his blindness was something that prevented him from being successful in life, but that he instead could do just about anything he wanted in life. Michael was never thought of as different from the other kids that he grew up with, but instead participated in almost all the activities that friends took part in. Michael discoved ways to prevent his blindness from limiting him and eventually, with the assistance of his guide dog, escaped from his workplace after it was attacked on 9/11. This book is more than just an account of one man’s escape of the Twin Towers on the day it was attacked, but also of how we cannot let things that hinder us, hold us back. There are ways around the obstacles in our lives and we have the ability to be successful even if we have what other people may call “limitations” or “dissabilities”. It was a terrific book to read and it was a great source of inspiration. I received this book free from the publisher and am not required to write a positive review, but one of my own honest opinion.

A++!!! One of the best books I have ever read!

Thunder dog was by far one of the best books I have ever read. It was an easy read, but was also very emotional while at the same time very informative. The book was written in a way that there was a very good blend of both Michael’s life and the actual events of 9/11. The book tells Michael’s life story, everything from his birth, to his first guide dog. He talks about his high school geometry teacher and his college experiences all the way up to his marriage and his career in the World Trading Center. But it also gives facts about The World Trade Center, and the attacks on September 11th. He talks about how many stairs he had to climb, how much jet fuel spilled into the towers that day, and how many tons of steel made up the buildings. It brought tears to my eyes many times, especially at the end when the book spills over and Karen, Michael’s wife starts telling her story of that morning, her panic, and how she handled waiting to hear from him to know if he was safe or not. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs some inspiration and determination in their lives, as well as anyone who wants more information on the attacks and obviously the experiences of the people from NYC that day. We all remember 9/11, and most of us even remember our exact location when the attacks happened. Some of us watched the towers fall, and the world froze that day for a lot of people. But to hear the raw and real story of a man who had never even seen the towers escape them and rescue others in the process through all of the chaos and panic is amazing. I commend Michael for his bravery. he is a much braver, stronger and more determined human being than most on this earth, and his story is one that should be read in every high school in US in my opinion. It’s educational, emotional and motivational. And, in these times, I think everyone could use a reminder of the horrible things that people have gone through and conquered. I will be saving this books and having my sons read it when they are old enough to understand the events of 9/11. I definitely give this book an A++!

I really enjoyed this book

A true story of two companions. One just happens to be a dog. They were a part of the 9-11 tragedy that was forced on them. This is a first hand account of that terrible day.
