When I first bought this I thought it was going to be battery powered where you just wave your hands underneath it but it's not it's a little pump and I've had battery powered units similar to this and they always gummed up and didn't work well so far the pump works excellent they give you instructions on how to measure out the soap and mix it with water and it's right now it's on my bathroom sink and I think it's going to work out really well
