This Great Value dimmable battery operated LED light bar with remote is surprisingly nice for what it costs. I can think of a lot of situations where a battery operated light bar with a remote would be useful. Actually, I have a number of battery operated LED lights around my house, none with a remote, until now. I like to use them in areas where being able to see in an emergency could be critical. For example, I have one attached to my headboard where I sleep, so I can quickly reach behind me and turn on a light regardless of whether the power is on or not. I also put one next to my daughters bed for the same reason. Basically there are virtually an endless number of situations where a battery operated light could be useful. As long as you keep it equipped with charged batteries, it will always be a reliable light source.
As an LED light bar on its own, it's pretty effective. The great thing about this one is it comes equipped with a remote and it's dimmable. The remote comes with two watch batteries, so it's probably going to last a really long time before they need to be changed. The light has two modes, On and RF. RF is the mode that works with the remote. There's also an OFF setting too of course. If you want to be able to dim the light, you'll need to use the remote. Simply setting it to On, sets it automatically to the brightest setting. On RF, the light has 10 brightness settings, with the lowest being dim enough to provide light, but not so dim that you can't see anything. The brightest setting provides a good bit of light, not as much as a 60 watt light bulb, but enough that you're not going to be tripping over things in the night.
To install batteries this light has a panel on the back that slides off relatively easily, but not so easily that it will fall off on its own. This light bar comes with two pieces of double sided tape so you can mount it pretty much wherever you want. It also comes with a set of screws and drywall anchors if you wanted to mount it somewhere on a more permanent basis. The same type of thing you'd expect to see with a smoke alarm.
Depending on how you look at it, the one issue I have with this light is it takes 6 AA batteries. Interestingly enough, it is capable of working with only 3 AA batteries. It's really not a bad thing, just that sacrificing 6 of my good rechargeable AA's at the time I got this light was something I didn't want to do. I'll just get some cheaper batteries, then it won't bother me as much. I typically reserve my good AA's for my Xbox controllers. In my opinion, using rechargeable batteries with something like this is a no brainer. If you use it a lot, you're going to burn through batteries fast. I have a number of battery powered flash lights that I use on a regular basis and they are constantly needing batteries switched out. If I had to buy new batteries every time it would cost a fortune. Rechargeable batteries, and especially for something that drains them as quickly as a light, are going to save you a lot of money in the long run. It would be wise to buy a kit that comes with a charger if you don't already have one, and at least 12 batteries so you can change the batteries out and immediately replace them without needing to wait for charging.
This LED light bar is well made for the price. With 6 fully charged AA's the light is supposed to last up to 4 hours on maximum brightness. You can mount it just about anywhere. The remote has a surprisingly good range. I was able to switch the light on and off from all the way on the other side of my house. The remote was still working even from 30 feet away and in a different room with walls blocking direct line of sight. I would rate this 5 stars. I don't really have anything bad to say about it, and especially at this price point. The only downside is it takes a ton of batteries.
In the pics I attached to my review there is no other light source in the area, only the light bar.
