Door Handle Broken After 2 YEARS

We purchased the item 2 yrs ago and the refridgerator door handle broke. My husband opened the door one day and it just came apart. Like many others have said, the replacement part is priced too high for a known defect.

Poor design

There is a design and manufacturing defect in the refrigerator door handle. The top of the handle has a built in stress concentration point that causes the handle to break. I have purchase about a dozen handles so far and average life us 6-12 months. I will soon have more invested in handles than the rest of the refrigerator.

Design flaw

As so many others have vented their frustrations I have the same problem. My second handle has broken and at the same point - where the two screws connect to the top of the refrigerator door. I can't understand why GE just doesn't reinforce the top with metal. This time I've crazy glued it back together but have put finish washers (usually used for cabinet installs) between the screw and the handle so there is not so much stress on the plastic holes. I'll let you know how long this lasts...
