Chinatown in Boston is situated atop a segment of a reclaimed tidal flat. It is the third-largest Chinatown in the U.S. and is located on Beach Street in Downtown Boston. This created Boston’s famous garment district which stayed active until the 1990's. Named for this culturally and gastronomically rich area of the city, Boston Spice created this spice blend. During the land making process to expand the size of the Boston Massachusetts in the late 17^th and early 18^th centuries, some of the areas around what was called Boston Neck were filled in to make solid usable land.

Boston Neck was a narrow strip of land that connected the peninsula of Boston to the mainland. This area was made up of mostly marshy tidal flats. This new area was first settled by Anglo-Americans.

Around the 1840s, Jewish, Irish, Italian, Syrian, and Chinese immigrants started to settle in this new area.

During the late 19^th century, more Chinese laborers were brought over to help with big construction projects that were going on in the area. Due to the massive influx of Chinese people, this area was known as the Chinese Colony of Boston.

The growth of Boston’s Chinatown boomed in the 1950s. Today, Boston’s Chinatown is the third-largest Chinatown in the United States. The first being San Francisco California and second being Manhattan New York.
