First and foremost, this is not...I repeat...NOT a movie for everyone. This is not for young kids and not for the religious at heart. You have been warned. With that being said, it doesn't mean it is a bad film. In fact, quite the opposite.
In Rampage, we meet Bill Richardson (Brendan Fletcher), a lowly guy from a small town with a pent-up anger towards globalization and government. Something must be done and nobody else seems to be doing anything about these issues in his mind. So what's a guy to do? Well...one day, wearing full-body armor and armed with more weapons than a SWAT team, he decides to start walking down the street shooting and killing innocent people. Yes, you read that correctly. I won't say more to avoid ruining the viewing experience.
Amazingly, the film is done quite well. The camera work can be overly-shaky at times, but I believe it is utilized to the benefit of the scene, not to the detriment of the audience. The acting is superb (Fletcher immerses himself in this role, shame it isn't for a more mainstream audience) and the story is very well thought out. I won't give away the ending, but let's just say there is a surprise and a reason behind it all....and you probably won't be able to guess right.
I know some are familiar with the director (Uwe Boll) from previous endeavours that were criticized and mocked, but this film stands on it's own. It should be examined and pondered. What are the positive and negative messages it is trying to say? There's a scene involving a bingo game that is absolutely hilarious, but in actuality is protraying society in such a decrepit way.
This is a must-see for those who are looking for something intelligent, edgy, dark, and suspenseful without minding a somewhat lack of moral pose!
