The Bessie Coleman Barbie Doll is Inspiring

I bought two of these dolls for young girls of color. Bessie Coleman was a truly remarkable woman who broke racial and gender barriers; and is a most worthy role model for girls. It is important that children see people who look like them doing brave, important and noteworthy things. I would most certainly NOT have purchased a traditional “Barbie Doll.” I would not want to contribute to the sex role stereotyping engendered by the original Barbie, which has been known to contribute to young girls' negative body images, eating disorders, and poor self-images, etc. So, I was delighted to find the Bessie Coleman dolls, and pleased to be able to give them to young girls.

Saluting this Tribute Doll

What a stunning historic doll! So impressed with her history, fortitude and patriotism, but her achievements are outstanding in any age, much less what she had to fight to be permitted to achieve. The doll itself is stunning, and the clothing is so well made. The boots alone are so welcomed in my collection. I bought one to keep in the box and one to take out and enjoy. and I'm not one bit sorry! 😆 I've seen these for a lot more elsewhere, so it was possible to have my cake and eat it too. This is a fine choice for a collector of any age. Highly recommend!

Get a piece of history

This is a beautiful doll, with a lot of history behind her. When I was a young girl, I would've loved to have gotten a figure like Bessie Colman. Bessie was the first Black female pilot and had to go outside the US for flight training........because no one here would accept her in their pilot program due to the fact Bessie was a woman and of color. After training in France, Bessie worked hard and open a flight school, but it was short lived because of a flight accident. "Not due to her". So much of black history is being pushed out of the schools...this is a fun way of learning history by interacting with Bessie's doll and learning about her life. This in turn teaches young minds that you can reach your dream no matter what. I wish more moms would buy more male/female dolls of color. I must say that Mattel has been wonderful. Because of this company, young children of color now have a very good chance of finding a doll that looks very much like themselves....and that is beautif
