You've got a bare root hydrangea, so it won't be a full plant at all. You're essentially starting the plant from scratch when you plant a bare root, so in this season, there will be root growth, but not much plant growth. From there, you'll see more growth next Spring, and finally in the third year it will resemble a shrub. So you will see more stems, but not for some time, simply due to the fact that this is a live bare root as advertised in the product.
