I've only had this dac/amp for a couple of weeks. I'm hooked. I was struggling to find something that did everything and this worked great. I needed: -High quality DACs and amplifiers -balanced pre-outs for studio monitors -Mode switch from headphone amp to pre-outs (not both at the same time) -separate volume levels for headphone and pre-outs -Adjustable jitter sensitivity, as I wanted to use the lousy optical output from my TV/monitor. -sensitive UI/function control I had a JDS element and was very happy with it, but was in need of something with optical input. I tried the equivalent Topping unit but it was difficult to use, the volume control felt like crap, the 3.5mm headphone jack was disappointing and the RCA outputs for my monitors were picking up noise. This unit is so much nicer to use, Topping (not as nice as the JDS of course, but a lot more features). It does EVERYTHING that I could have hoped for and for the money it's a great value for money. I highly recommend it!

I bought it specifically to avoid the sound dropping out if I tried to use the television's optical output to play sound on external speakers. We have not had any sound problems. The DAC seems to be working as intended and has really improved our TV viewing experience. Figuring out how to use it took me a little while. At first, I was holding the button down too long; a short press worked to access the various menus. I also initially thought it wasn't working at all, but it turned out I was turning the sound down. I can't say whether low gain works well or not; we used high gain and the sound was great. I have it set at a dp of 7 out of 9, which is what I have seen recommended in a conversation about TV audio on the internet. We haven't had any audio dropouts, so it seems to be a good setting. I appreciate that if we had any problems or concerns, Judy at Aoshida got in touch with me before the DAC even arrived. Apart from the half hour or so it took me to realise I had turned the sound down too low, I didn't have any problems. The DAC and all the components are well packaged and the manual explains the various settings. I also found the manual online as a PDF, so I was able to enlarge the print to make it easier to read. One caveat: the remote control needs two AAA batteries, which are not included. I only used the remote to get the volume where we wanted it, but I did use it for that, so I had to buy some AAA batteries. I really appreciate the fact that this DAC was available.

I should have purchased this product at least two years ago after I bought my first serious headphones, 80-ohm BeyernDinamics DT770 pro, and instead for two years I was content to drive them with the integrated on my motherboard. After trying this DAC/Amp I was able to really appreciate the potential of my headphones and I also connected in TRS my new Edifier monitor speakers which I can then also use via bluetooth. Highly recommended.
