I bought this DAC headphone amp as a replacement for my old Oppo portable and I am very pleased with the sound quality, the balanced headphone jacks and the overall form factor. The DAC works very well without the need for drivers in MacOS 11 and is able to drive my 300 ohm Sienhiesers with ease when set to high gain mode. The remote control is an added bonus and I really like having both the physical volume control and the OLED display which shows bitrate and volume levels. All in all, I am very pleased with this Hi-Res audio product and I can highly recommend the seller, Aoshida Audio-CA, for their prompt customer service when I had a question to ask.

All I want from my headphones, if you're like me, is decent, unadulterated sound. I returned the review-loving Topping DX3 Pro+ and got this. What this DAC offers the Topping lacks: USB 1.1 and 2.0, so you can use this with your game pad. And if you are using an optical drive, then you will know that it can suffer from random audio drop-outs. This unit has a feature that eliminates this problem - just set it to dP9 and the problem is gone. At $219, this is worth it. This went on sale once for only $175... which is a steal. Without a doubt, this is the one to get if you're like me and assumed the headphone input on your a/v receiver would suffice. 5 stars.

I bought the Topping DX3 Pro+ for the first time as a desktop DAC and amplifier combo. I was expecting/hoping for a significant difference in the amplifier section, coming from the Qudelix 5k and EarStudio ES100 MK2. The upgrade was not as significant as I had hoped it would be. I had already ordered the SMSL C200 to compare the two, but was less excited now. My assumption was that there would be no difference between the SMSL C200 and its Topping counterpart. I couldn't have been more wrong. In terms of build quality, the C200 is immediately more attractive to me. Not night and day, but the SMSL definitely has the edge. The volume knob feels and works better, each turn is felt but not as 'clicky'. Sometimes the DX3 would click but the volume wouldn't move, it's just smoother, and every time you feel it go up or down the volume actually changes. Also, don't lose the remote control for the Topping, if you do you won't be able to change the settings. The SMSL works with the remote, or you can scroll through the menu with the volume knob. The SMSL's amplifier section is designed for more power. But that doesn't tell the whole story. The C200 is warmer and has a better bass response. The sound is smoother and more detailed. The best way to describe it is that the Topping now seems cold and lifeless. Considering they're basically the same price, unless you're lucky like me and find the C200 on sale, the choice is easy. I have done the legwork for you: Skip the Topping and go straight to the SMSL C200.
