Hello Peggy, We appreciate your review and we're sorry to hear that your item arrived with a chemical odor. Here are some suggestions we recommend in order to reduce/eliminate the odor coming from your rug: 1)      Air the rug out in a clean, well-ventilated area, like a porch for a few days (a garage is not recommended unless the windows or the doors are open)2)      Turn on the air conditioner or place fans within the space where the rug is located and keep the windows and doors open.  This will help enhance the flow of air in and out of the space. Please allow 24-48 hours.3)      If you have an air ventilation system (ducts that exchange indoor for outdoor air) keep this running for at least 48 hours after the rug is installed.  You can run it for longer if the odor is still present.4) Vacuum the rug. This removes most particles from the rug’s fibers, which often removes the various smells that accompany them.5)      If this is an outdoor rug, you can place the rug under direct sunlight for a few hours.  If possible, hang it up on a fence, over a railing, or clothesline.  If not, laying the rug out on a tarp or old blanket will work!  Don’t forget to flip your rug overexposing the backside and let sit for a few hours!  It may take several sessions of 4-6 hours, to rid of all odors.Odors should reduce within a week once the rug is removed from the packaging. If you’ve tried all of these suggestions, and this did not remove the odor, we strongly advise you to reach out to the vendor you purchased from for a return/exchange/replacement/refund. Please be aware that vendors have their own return policy, please reach out to your vendor and see if you are able to return/exchange/replace this rug.If you don’t want to return the rug but the odor is still present the best solution is to have the rug professionally cleaned or refer to the below options. We do not recommend using baking soda. If you choose to use baking soda, you can sprinkle baking soda onto the rug and leave it overnight, and simply vacuum up the remaining baking soda with the attachments from your vacuum. Safavieh is not responsible if issues arise from using baking soda. Do not engage beater bars or a rotating brush.  Please be aware of the fiber content of your rug. This will not be the best solution for all-natural fiber, silk, jute, seagrass, viscose, and all shag rugs. We are not responsible for damages to the rug if you choose to use baking soda.We do not provide any extended warranty. Warranty is up to the vendor of purchase.
