One of the Best!

If you are digging post holes or digging a well, this post hole digger is a must! My headline says 'One of the Best' because if you are installing a fence in clay or just dirt, you may need two diggers, one, such as this one that basically drills down through the dirt and the other type, with two handles and two longer slender shovels at the end to remove rocks by getting around them and griping them to make removal easier. If you are digging in sand, this auger is just the ticket, it glides through sand like butter and it is adjustable if you want a larger hole dug. Because this digger is adjustable I also titled it 'One of the Best' because I've yet to find another auger that is adjustable. p.s. this company also makes one that is not adjustable

Excellent product

Our backyard has hard clay that starts from about 6-8 inches and then streteches to about 3ft depth. Because of this, the trees we planted were not growing as the roots were not able to get through the clay. I bought this auger to drill holes next to the trees, remove the clay and fill it up with soft soil. This auger is a great tool. Simple and elegant design and easy to adjust the size. Sturdy steel construction digs through clay very smoothly. Just decide your spot and keep turning it clockwise and the tool cuts through the soil. The dirt gets collected in the bucket which can be easily removed into a wheel barrow or something of that sort. It might not cut through strong roots or rocks so watch out for those. All in all, a great product and would definitely recommend it. Ordered it online from Walmart as I could not find it in the local Lowes or Home Depot and Walmart had a better price than other online sites incl. amazon.

Best posthole digger going- without a motor

Nothing does well in rocks, or hard-pan, but this is the best thing I've used in decent material. You can even add pipe sections to the handle, to dig down for a well point, then sleeve the hole with PVC so you don't have to do the same job more than once
