you might think it's defective, but wait...

You opened up the package, peeled off the sticker and pulled out the battery tab, and you can't get the display to turn on. is it defective? no. the little battery tab just didn't pull out of the way and it's still blocking the batteries. take a screwdriver open up the battery compartment and pull the rest of the paper out. it'll work us fine.

I like the design of this device in order for it to fit well into the drawer. I had a hard time at first turning it on and discovered you have to remove the battery door with a screwdriver to remove the plastic where the battery is. Otherwise it is quick and works well.
