Works Great!

I had to get a new laptop because the motherboard on my old one died. This handy device allows easy access to my files and quick data transfer to my bright and shiny new laptop.

Fine for SATA, struggles with IDE

I had no problems getting the SATA side to connect. The IDE 3.5 side was a different story. You MUST set the jumper on the drive so it is master. If you put it on cable select or slave it will not work. When you power on the 3.5 IDE side it takes a while before the drive is detected and mounted. I would estimate around 30 seconds for the drives I was testing. Out of 10 drives only 3 would function properly. 3 other drives were detected, but would never mount. The 4 remaining drives were never even detected. To be fair, these are really old drives, some probably dating back to the 90's. Drives will go bad with age. I have had issues with 2 of the 4 drives that never detected, and suspect they were probably bad anyway. It is possible that only 3 of the drives were ok, but I think the 3 that got detected, but never mounted would probably work in a PC. I have not had any issues with those until now. With it struggling and taking so long to detect and mount the 3 drives that did work, I would say it is probably not the best adapter for 3.5 IDE. I did not test the 2.5 IDE side, because I did not have that size drive available. The SATA side worked fine. If you are using the 3.5 side or SATA, you must use the included power supply. It usually isn't needed for the 2.5 side. The cable is USB A to USB A with an included USB A to USB C adapter if needed. The instructions are pretty well written. I can't give this 5 stars, because of the way it struggled with the 3.5 IDE drives. If you mainly need it for SATA it should be fine. I already have a SATA adapter, so I was hoping the IDE side would work better. It may work better on newer IDE drives, but most IDE drives are older. Everything is pretty much SATA now. I did not have any issues with connections on any of the drives I tested. I have read reviews of other adapters being so wide that it prevented the power cable from connecting. This adapter does not have that problem.
