During the 1950's, when many women stayed home to raise children and tend the home, often on a one-income budget, collecting and exchanging recipes was a social event. Before the Internet, recipes were often kept on index cards in beautifully decorated boxes. Some were kept secret, but most of them were shared, and often passed down to later generations. When Lois Licklider Cuffman passed away in 2019, shortly before her 100th birthday, she left behind her treasured recipe collection. Her daughter, writer Diane Ryder, transcribed every one of them, added comments, and preserved them in book form for her daughters, nieces, grandchildren, and generations to come. Keep the traditions!
