Great bike for the price, great frame to customize

I have used this bike to commute to work for four months now. Overall, I would say it has done what I expected it to do. A few things I would like to pint out: 1. You can't buy this bike expecting it to perform like a $300 bike. It just isn't that. But it is solid and will serve its purpose. 2. The price is as cheap as it is because it's made with cheap parts. Plan on replacing the brakes, tires, and the seat. Basically, you're buying the frame, which is quality built. And you can customize it with good brakes, etc. I bought commuter tires for it because the mountain bike tires wear thin fast on roads. I haven't replaced the seat yet, but soon. The tubes are cheap too, so buy some good ones after the first flat. Don't even worry about patching the stock tubes. 3. This will vary by store, but make sure they put it together properly. I bought this one and a Schwinn cruiser for my gf, and both had loose nuts, etc. The guy at the bike shop said he has rarely seen one put together right by a department store. The grips slip off, but he said hairspray will fix that. It did. I'm giving it 5 stars because the bike itself has met my expectations, even if they weren't that high. Just know you're buying a frame to customize later. And to Wal-Mart, it would be great if we could buy the frame alone. This would save the customer money because I'm guessing the frame alone could be sold for $60 or so. Some of us like customizing our bikes and just need a quality frame to start.

Fairly decent, box store durability

Pretty decent bike from the store. I'd look for the new version with a front disc brake personally. The derailleur bit the dust about 90-100 miles in but with my weight (~300lb) I knew it was a stretch to expect much durability. After 120-130 miles the pedal bolts loosened up enough to wear out the square taper mount. Factory wheel truing was nothing spectacular. Brakes were squeel-y but that was resolved with some Tektro's to upgrade the stamped sheet metal that is included. Front fork is showing signs of wear after about ~300 miles and I'm currently looking for an upgrade or replacement, but from my measurements it appears to use an incredibly dated 1" threaded steer tube. Cockpit is all sized for plain jane 22.2mm MTB bars that I promptly swapped for bullhorns given my extreme height, to do this I had to swap to bar end shifters and cross brake levers. Eventually, I even invested in a TSDZ2 e-bike conversion kit and it's holding up surprisingly well to the abuse, even given my enormous size. A good bike for someone not so sure about their new hobby. Great bike for someone looking to invest another $50-$70 into a better (read: branded) group set and personal fit.
