This line of pencils has to be one of the most versatile tools I have. Sketch, sketch and wash, underpainting drawings, dip the point in water for really dense color, scribble and use that as a paint palette, details on top of a painting… I haven't stopped finding new ways to use these!

Derwent Lightfast Coloured Pencils, Set of 12

I'm normally a Prismacolor user but these Derwent Pencils are definitely impressive! I'd say they're about on par with Prisma, perhaps better. I really like the pigment and creamy application of these pencils. I find that they do a terrific job with blending. I think the set of 12 has a great array of colors, especially for portraits. I will definitely be purchasing the larger set in the future.
