Key item features

The "Gary Cooper Star Collection" includes "The Westerner", "Man Of The West", "Along Came Jones" and "Pride Of The Yankees". "The Westerner": Walter Brennan, in his third Academy Award(R)-Winning performance, is Judge Roy Bean, a hard-nosed judge who dispenses his own unique brand of justice. Oscar(R) Winner Gary Cooper is Cole Harden, a stranger accused of stealing horses who attempts to talk himself out of the hangman's noose. Soon, each man wins the other's grudging friendship... until Bean's deadly scheming against the homesteaders provokes Harden into opposing him - no matter what the cost! "Man Of The West": In his last great role, Gary Cooper powerfully demonstrates why he will forever be remembered as one of the most original and authentic stars of the screen. Tight-lipped, capable yet vulnerable, Cooper's portrayal of a former outlaw whose past returns to haunt him ranks among his best. When the train he is on gets robbed, Link Jones (Cooper) finds himself unwillingly reunited with his old gang. Dock Tobin (Lee J. Cobb), the gang's sadistic, half-crazed patriarch, was like a father to Link some twenty years past and welcomes him back. To survive, Link must take up his old ways - his killing ways. What was once his "family" has now become his hell. "Along Came Jones": Melody Jones (Cooper) is a mild-mannered cowpoke who barely knows the difference between a six-shooter and a carbine rifle, but when he rides into Paynesville, he immediately commands the respect - and fear - of the entire town. The locals believe he's the notorious Monte Jarrad (Dan Duryea), a ruthless outlaw who's been terrorizing the frontier with his daring robberies and lightning-fast draw. At first, Jones enjoys his newfound fame, but that quickly ends when he finds himself the target of a bloodthirsty posse, a determined private investigator, Jarrad's double-crossed partners and the most dangerous enemy of all: Jarrad himself! "Pride Of The Yankees": Lou Gehrig's boyhood dreams come true when he signs on with the New York Yankees and takes the field alongside his idol, Babe Ruth. In fact, Lou considers himself "the luckiest man in the world"... Until unthinkable misfortune strikes and he must summon all his courage to face his toughest battle yet.

"Man Of The West" is presented in Widescreen Format and Color. All other films are presented in Black & White and Full Frame Format.

4 out of 5 stars review

A Collection of 4 Different Movies

I purchased this Gary Cooper collection for the most part to acquire "The Pride of the Yankees." It is a biography of the infamous Lou Gehrig. It is extremely well done; an excellent movie that I would rate 5 star. I heartily recommend it. Of the other 3 movies, The Westerner and Along Came Jones I would classify as 3 star and recommend them to Western viewers. However, "Man of the West" is not a movie I can recommend. It is a movie of sadistic, savage murders and other violent crimes. I was surprised that Gary Cooper would accept a role in such a movie.
