The knives are made of proprietary special formula steel that has been perfected over the years. I bought it to replace the same bread knife that was part of my wedding gift set ( back in 1991) that fell to the floor and the blade broke in half !!! I'm very happy with the new knife, and use it everyday for bread, slicing large tomatoes and even roast meats.
