Hob - From Ambient - Cooking Directions on the Stove*. 1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil.*. 2. Stir in rice.**. 3. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until all water is absorbed. **Add 1 Tbsp. butter and 1 tsp. salt per cup of uncooked rice, if desired. *Cooking Measurement Chart. Rice: 1 cup, Water: 1-¾ cups, Yield: 3 cups, Servings (¾ cup cooked): 4. Rice: 2 cups, Water: 3-½ cups, Yield: 6 cups, Servings (¾ cup cooked): 8. Rice: 3 cups, Water: 5-¼ cups, Yield: 9 cups, Servings (¾ cup cooked): 12. For drier rice, use 1/4 cup less water. For moister rice, use 1/4 cup more water. Microwave - From Ambient - Cooking Directions in the Microwave**. 1. In a 2-quart microwave-safe dish, combine 2 cups water and 1 cup rice.**. 2. Cover and microwave on High for 5 minutes. Reduce setting to 50% power; microwave for 15 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. **It is recommended that only 1 cup rice be prepared in the microwave at a time. Microwave ovens vary. Cooking times are approximate. Traditional Cooking Directions. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Measure 1 to 2 cups of Mahatma Basmati Rice and add to boiling water. Boil uncovered for 12 minutes. Drain and rinse a strainer with hot water. Increase water to 12 cups to cook 3 cups of rice. For a more authentic result, soak rice in cold water for 15 minutes before cooking and reduce cooking time to 10 minutes. Do Not Rinse. Cooking Tips. Rice: Dress it Up! The versatility of rice is just one of its key benefits. Below are simple ways to make aromatic rice even more special. Starting with hot, cooked rice.. • Sprinkle with fried scallions, shallots, garlic or ginger. • Add grated lemon zest, chopped fresh mint, a dab of butter and cooked peas. • Stir in grated Parmesan cheese and sautéed onions. • Season with toasted sesame oil or tamari. • Stir in chopped dried fruit and toasted nuts. When preparing.. • Sauté garlic, add rice and cook in chicken broth. • Add whole cloves and a stick of cinnamon while cooking rice. • For perfect pilafs, sauté rice in oil to firm and toast the starchy exterior.
Safe Handling Instructions

I wish I could give TASTE and AROMA 10 stars! I will never ever go back to using just Long Grain White Rice! There is NO comparison! White rice to me is just a filler, kind of tasteless, but functional in many recipes, but when you want smooth, a TINY bit sweet tasting rice with an AROMA that is so pleasant, then you need, you NEED to try Mahatma Basmati White Rice! I kid you not!! No wonder they sell it in little bag to a huge bag that is usually on the bottom shelf in a fabric kind of bag with handles!! I just wish I would have found it sooner in life so I could have learned to do more with it!! Look for recipes with rice in it and use Mahatma Basmati Rice instead of long grain white rice. I believe you will love the difference. BUT to be perfectly honest???? My favorite thing is getting out my tiny rice cooker and make just enough for me to have a little bowl of rice for me as a snack when nothing else sounds good. All I add to it after its done is a teaspoon or so of butter and a touch of salt. YUMMY Go get some.. Your Welcome!!! Ohhh ps... works great as FRIED RICE!!

Best rice I've had
I watched some Indian/pakistani cooking and they always use basmati rice so thought I'd try too. The extra long grain version is great but this basmati rice tastes better. I find the flavor to be lighter in a way. Also the grains are around double the size which I find very appealing and unique

Authentic and Aromatic Basmati Rice
I ran out of basmati rice one day and added it to a Spark order along with a few other things. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Walmart carries this brand. I usually use their regular white rice but had been trying a different brand for basmati. The grains are extra long and very aromatic. The food turned out so much better than with the other brand and I'm really glad I decided to try something different for once. Mahatma is definitely more authentic and flavorful. I'll be sticking with it from now on.
