GREAT MOVIE, not so great transfer!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time so needless to say when I heard they were putting it out on Blu Ray I was ecstatic. After purchasing it I went straight home, threw it in my PS3, turned on my 52" Samsung LCD, cranked up my home theater and got cozy on the couch. That was the best part of the night because when I actually started watching the movie I was majorly disappointed. I was expecting the picture to pop and really thought that this being a sapphire series release they would have put a lot of time and care into this release. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I put my original copy of the movie in and it didn't look that much different. I have to say I'm truly upset by the quality of this release and had such high expectations. All I have to say is if you have the original I probably wouldn't waste your money on upgrading to the Blu Ray version because it really isn't worth it.

Remastered edition is breathtaking

Walmart carries the remastered edition - which includes an extended version - apparently earlier blu-ray copies (2009-2010) were of poor quality. This remastered version is simply breathtaking, with scenes that make you feel you're right in the picture. The extended version only adds about 16 minutes of footage, but helps expand the characters and the story. As the winner of numerous academy awards, this movie is a classic in so many ways - and may still represent the best performance of Russell Crowe EVER!! Highly, highly recommended. Scenes of violence are not appropriate for young children or faint of heart.
