Beautiful but difficult to vacuum

This rug is gorgeous but almost impossible to vacuum. I have tried three different vaccum cleaners all set on "low pile" and the rug either pulls up off the floor or the roller on the vaccum stops. I thought the large size, 8' x 10' would preclude needing a rug pad but obviously not. The rug is lovely, and soft just needs a pad to keep it stuck to the floor.
