Key item features

  • Dystopian Narrative: The novel is the first in the New York Times bestselling Unwind dystology by Neal Shusterman, set in a futuristic America after a Second Civil War.
  • Unique Premise: It explores a societal agreement, the Bill of Life, where life is protected from conception to age thirteen, but allows for "unwinding" between thirteen and eighteen.
  • Unwinding Process: This process involves retroactively ending a child's life by transplanting all their organs to various recipients, ensuring life doesn't "technically" end.
  • Central Characters: The story follows three runaway teens: Connor, ordered unwound by his parents; Risa, a ward of the state facing unwinding due to cost-cutting; and Lev, whose unwinding was planned since birth as a religious tithing.
  • Moral Exploration: The narrative examines complex moral issues as the teens' paths intersect, creating breathtaking suspense.

Great Story

I read this book when I was a senior in high school. which is a odd thing for me to say about any book, as I could never seem to find a book to hold my attention. The story starts a little slow but after the first couple chapters it gets better. The characters are well thought out, and described. I was unaware that there was a "sequal" , for lack of a better word, to this book until about a week ago so now I am looking forward to reading the next part of this story. Oh by the way I gave it 4 stars because it takes a few pages to get interesting.
