Dinah has waxed her voice on innumerable recordings throughout her career.
Although it would be just to have her music at the top of our playlists, the opposite is true. She's a nearly forgotten enchantress of popular melodies. Few songs come to mind for those fortunate enough to remember her decades of work, from the 1940s to the 1960s and beyond. This CD reacquaints us with some of her popular performances as well as giving us an earful of the music which has been, up till now, relegated to oblivion.
"Manhattan Serenade" is the type of dreamily romantic waltz that Shore is most associated with. But gratefully we can hear her on uptempo numbers like "Bye Bye Blues." The rhythm of the band is not lost on Dinah as she swings through the tumult. Her duet with Johnny Mercer on "One Less Bell" is a look at how bluesy and jazz-ridden the sweet Dinah Shore could be.
